If you live here in the West, I’m sure you’re hearing that Russia has invaded the Ukraine. But if you are living in parts of the East, in Russia or China, you may be hearing that Russia is defending its territory. So which is true?

As we’ve seen lately, truth seems to be a relative thing depending on each individual’s perception. So it’s not easy to determine these days what is true.
Even in our own minds, we have 2 voices, one saying, “I want peace.” And another saying, “But we must protect ourselves.” Conflicted. The question is which voice are we going to hear and obey? That’s our problem.

The war we’re experiencing in Europe is a laser beam which is pointing to our collective chaotic (or ego) state of mind because what we’re all perceiving, for the most part, is this military incursion on a free country.

This perception is causing great stress for many of us. Yet, the good news is that we have a choice as to how we perceive this war in our minds. It’s not based, believe it or not, on anything external. That’s the key and the great open secret which most of us have never been taught.

So let’s talk about what you can do when you’re confronted by the conflicting thoughts in your mind. My spiritual discipline, A Course in Miracles, teaches us to STOP.

* Just stop. Stop listening to the chatter. You have to shut it out. That negative, fearful environment that’s raging all around and trying to drag you in and grab your attention. It wants to keep you in this state of incredible stress and tension. Say NO to it!

* Once you do that, you can start to collect your thoughts. If you’re paying any attention at all to what’s going on in your mind, you realize you have so many different thoughts buzzing around like frightened bees. They range from your own personal survival to what’s going on in the world. Should you build a bunker, should you join the army or something? A million thoughts!

So you want to collect those thoughts and sort them out. Chapter 23 in the Course is called, ‘The war against yourself.’ In other words, the war that you see ‘out there’ is simply the projection of the belief in the war that’s going on inside of you.

This may sound bizarre, but as you begin to work with spiritual ideas, you will see how incredibly, amazingly true they are. What happens in the world you see is based on what you believe. So if you believe war is essential to preserving human civilization, then you will choose to see wars going on. (Many of us do.)

In our ego thinking, war appears in many forms. It is unavoidable in the life that we live here in a body walking around, running our businesses, and having our relationships. The little wars we wage within our families, communities, and work environments are mirrored in the larger world. That’s the way the system works.

So choosing becomes crucial because that’s where we have the power to control the stress caused by fear in our minds. We can’t control the externals, but we can control what we think.

In Chapter 23, the Course states that “You are the resting place of God.” If you don’t like the word ‘God’ then use another word. My definition of God is the sum total of all Life, all creation. We are all part of that creation. Every being alive on this planet, in this universe is part of that creation. And each and every part is essential to do whatever it is that we’re guided to do–to run our business, to have the families that we have, to make the decisions that we make. So that’s the good news. We can decide how we want to see our world, and how we want to live our lives in fear or in peace.

So as I mentioned before, when you are in a chaotic state of consciousness, the first thing is to stop. Stop what you’re doing. Stop being concerned. Stop listening to all the garbage. Let it all go. And the second thing is to collect your thoughts. As I said, get in touch with all of those multitudinous thoughts and realize that something needs to change so you can de-stress.

The third thing is, while you’re in that quiet place collecting your thoughts, you want to ask for help to stem the tide of all those fearful thoughts. You must ask for help. The answer that you need is not going to come from all that external chatter. The help can only come from the source of the original thought of war, and that is from within you.
Next, affirm that you deserve to have an answer that will bring you calm, that you deserve peace, that you deserve to have what you need to resolve whatever issue you have.

Then, you must listen. That means diving down below the frenzied shrieking of all those crazy, conflicting thoughts to a place beneath, where your internal wisdom resides. It’s always there and you can find it if you’re willing to take the journey.

It’s a journey there. It doesn’t happen overnight and that’s what I teach. I help you find that path to get there. And once you do, your life will change incredibly.

When you learn how to listen, you’ll get practical answers. Yesterday my answer was “fill up the oil tank because prices are going up.” So I called my oil company and said “deliver me some oil!” Very practical, right?

And today in my quiet time I heard, “Talk to whoever will listen about having a choice. They don’t have to run around, crazed because they see war. They can look upon it with eyes and hearts of peace and equanimity. And then they will get the answer that they need.”

Lastly, follow the guidance you receive.
I am looking at the situation from a place of peace knowing that my guidance has told me what to do and will continue to do so. The President’s guidance is going to be very different. His inner wisdom will tell him to do other things. And so will yours.

So I’m going to leave his guidance to him and keep my guidance for me and I think that’ll work out a lot better for everybody! I hope these steps have been helpful to you.

Love and Peace Always,
