Once upon a time, there was a chainsaw-toting, wannabe farmer, interfaith minister who trafficked in chickens. She adored their antics and grew fat and happy eating their multicolored eggs…. (Well, not fat but pleasantly plump, shall we say!)
If you know me then you know I am a keeper of hens. Currently I have 3 lovely ladies and 2 chicks who make me laugh. Yesterday I found Elyse sitting on a branch in the Japanese maple tree and the other night the chicks couldn’t figure out how to get into the coop for the night and ended up on the roof of the coop!
The varieties of ‘backyard’ chickens are endless and each type lays a specific kind of egg. Elyse, my Easter Egger, lays pink eggs, and Shelly, the black Maran, lays beautiful huge brown eggs. I don’t have a purple hen but Nilla’s wing and head feathers are a purplish grey.
So why do I bring up my feathered family? Because keeping chickens enhances my creativity. I bring them some treats and watch them for a few minutes and my whole being is lifted up and cracked open, letting new ideas spill into my conscious thoughts.
It’s essential for every businesswoman to find her creativity. You need to rev it up because creativity is what makes you unique. If you’re a coach or a writer or an inventor, whatever business you are in, whatever your passion is, there are millions of other people doing the same thing, right? Your creativity is what makes you unique. It’s what you bring to your writing, to your courses, to your clients, to your customers– and what draws them to YOU. Your creativity makes all the difference so, of course, it’s essential that you nurture that creativity within you as much as you can.
There are so many benefits to acknowledging how important your creativity is for you:
++ Creativity will get you through tough times– when you allow your creativity to flow, it’s coming from your inner self. (This is the course I teach. I help you get in touch with that inner self so that you can bring forth your creativity.) You recognize that you have your own inner resources, and that’s so important to know; that no matter what’s going on in your life, the massive changes, the uninvited experiences and disappointments, perhaps even loss of a loved one this year, you have the inner resources to get through it all. I can tell you that my creative ability has burst forth this year to help me.
++ Creativity helps you smooth over your mistakes. I mean, who doesn’t make mistakes? We all make mistakes, things happen. Sometimes we have to react very quickly and then we find out later maybe it wasn’t such a good idea. So, being able to go within and just say, “okay what do I need to do now? What can I do to correct this situation?” And you will hear it, if you’re willing and able to listen to that still small voice within you, you will get your answers. Your creativity will help you see the potential and connections that others don’t, because they’re so busy trying to keep it together and fix the problem immediately, that they’re not willing to take the time to go within and find out what they can do that’s unusual, different, exciting, to pique their customers’ interest.
++ Creativity will bolster your confidence in yourself. It’s a self-perpetuating thing because once you listen to the guidance which tells you to talk about purple chickens, and then you find that it was a lot of fun and worked out well, that builds your confidence. Then you are motivated to find something else because that’s how it works – it’s an ever-evolving system when you start to work with your creativity. It’ll help you see solutions that balloon your abundance mentality!
Our goal here is building a vibrant and abundant mentality. And your creativity is at the top of the list to accomplish that. So it’s time to spice up everything you do by pinging your creativity, to use a modern word!
So how do you do this?
Is it possible? Have you said, “I’m just not a creative person. I’m pragmatic. I go by the book, yada,yada..” things like that. And I say to you, “Horsefeathers!”
Everybody can be creative. It’s a skill you can learn. Let’s just talk about some of the ways that you can encourage and nurture your creativity.
- You must find a time in the day. I strongly encourage you to do this first thing in the morning before you even get out of bed for the day, because that’s when you haven’t fully awakened yet. Your mind is still in the alpha state of creativity and openness to your inner wisdom. In the beginning of my course, I teach you how to do that. It’s very simple – just four steps, and it doesn’t take more than 15 minutes but it’s the most important 15 minutes of the day! It will make all the difference. If the morning doesn’t work for you for whatever reason, you’ve got family, pets, then, just before sleep. This is a non negotiable. You have to find a way to do it.
Another technique that is really helpful because it takes the thinking mind out of the picture, is to do automatic writing. You pick up a pen and paper, set a time limit, say, 2 minutes, and you start writing anything. You don’t censor it, you don’t try to figure out what it is that you’re saying, you just write down whatever comes to mind, and you don’t pick the pen up off the paper! You keep going, just keep going. And if you can’t think of anything to write, write “I don’t know what to write,” until another thought comes. Keep it up for a couple of minutes. You may be very surprised to see what comes out of that.
- A practical way for you to help yourself get in touch with your creative thoughts, as a businesswoman, is to help others, because that’s what we do as women. We’re multi-taskers and we tend to work well with others. So create or join a mastermind group of other women that you can meet with on a regular basis to brainstorm, to throw out ideas with people that you trust who will keep everything within the mastermind- nothing leaves the room, and you don’t share it with anybody else
So, you must find time each day to nurture your creativity. Not everybody can sit quietly, I get it. There are many ways to find that quiet space which I go into in detail in my course. Yet, allowing your creativity, your inner wisdom, to flow, can increase your income and solve your family problems. I know it sounds ridiculous for me to say, but it’s true, it can transform your life!
Again, find ‘sacred time’ every day. Set aside just 15 minutes and maybe you’ll find your own purple chicken!
Peace and Love Always,
