There is a way for you to experience your thoughts and your feelings differently so that you can discover the solutions to your problems. Right within your own mind, that’s where the answers are. But you must give yourself the opportunity to be still for a moment, to go within and find what I call your ‘Master Switch.’ It will shift you from the outer world, which is concerned with the past and the future and all the problems there, into your interior world where all your answers are. So today, I am going to talk about one quick way to make the shift from the confusion of outer direction-by using affirmations.

I chose 3 affirmations for this particular time of the year because we’re all experiencing many different forms of stress. But as women business owners in particular, we are really stressed because we wear 17 different hats. We have business concerns, family dynamics, financial demands, to name a few.  And it seems that there’s just never enough time to get everything done.

So I want to talk about affirmations because they are one of the quickest solutions when you are feeling really stressed. It’s just a quick little phrase or sentence that you say, and it can shift your whole attitude immediately. And that’s its purpose-to “eliminate the negative and latch on to the affirmative” as the old song goes. “And don’t mess with Mister in-between!” The power of affirmations, used appropriately, will lead to better health, greater prosperity– all those good things!

So how do you use an affirmation? If you do it frequently enough, and you do it with purest intention, you are bound for success. I’m sure you probably already know this. But for those of you who have not tried using affirmations before, an affirmation is as I said, a statement, a phrase or a sentence, something short, something you can remember and hang onto throughout the day. And you’re going to use it throughout the day. That’s the whole point.

That’s the beauty of it. Because it is short and sweet. You can bring it up anywhere, anytime. As you go through the day, you may find yourself beginning to fall into a negative thought pattern. “It’s too late. I’ll never finish in time.” Or you get angry. “Why did he say that to me?” A quick repetition of your affirmation can bring your back to a peaceful mental state, and you’re going to feel much better.

The affirmation shifts your attitude so that you can feel calm. And isn’t that your goal- to feel calm, to bring out your creativity and your joy so you can accomplish your goals easily?

So my suggestion is to start each day with at least one affirmation. You only need one for each day, but I’m going to give you three. You can choose one or make your own, do whatever works for you. Start the day before you even get out of bed. When you wake up, just sit up and acknowledge the day: “Hello, day! Welcome! I’m so happy to be alive and have this wonderful day to experience.” Then just sit in quiet and repeat your affirmation 5 times. You may also want to read from an inspirational book. My book, Calm, Creative, Joyful contains a daily uplifting idea.

There are a million books out there that can do the job. Choose one and read from it every day. This is very simple, very easy. You don’t have to spend much time, but it will change the way your day goes. I guarantee it because you’re starting off feeling positive, feeling elevated. “Yeah, I got this day, it’s going to be great.”

So get that affirmation clear in your mind. Write it down perhaps. When I first started using affirmations, especially as a new student of A Course in Miracles, I couldn’t remember the lesson for the day, so I would write it down on the palm of my hand! That way, it was always there, or at least until I washed my hands a few times and it was gone. But it was a way for me to remember!

So, it’s morning. You’ve just awakened. You’re sitting up in bed, you close your eyes, you’ve got this affirmation. You slowly and gently repeat the affirmation five times with sincerity; with a sense of certainty that this affirmation means so much to you, and will be a great help for you throughout the day. Then, stay for a minute, eyes closed, and let the idea sink in, knowing that “I’m in control of my life. I make decisions about what I need to do and what’s good for me. And I can change my mind if I don’t like what I’m thinking.”

So here are the affirmations that I chose for you today:

I am open to all the wealth life has to offer.

I know you’re already dreading the next credit card bill. That’s why a shift to an abundance of thought is essential. Wealth is a state of mind. You are entitled to all the wealth that life has to offer, but wealth isn’t just money, right? Of course not. Wealth is health. Wealth is being able to look out the window and see the sky, the trees and celebrate Mother Nature. Wealth is meaningful relationships; having family and friends who support you and whose company brings you deep satisfaction. Wealth comes in many different forms, and you’re entitled to all of them, all of them. “I acknowledge that I am open to all the wealth that life has to offer.”

I am healthy, energetic and optimistic.

Some of us are naturally optimistic. I am. If you’re not, then this affirmation is particularly good for you. Because, again, that shift is so important. You must be able to shift how you look at the people and things around you; to envision the scenario that’s happening in front of you and see it in a positive way. Why? because optimism breeds energy. When you feel energetic, you move your body and get things done. Energy breeds health. The more energy you expend, through physical work or exercise, the healthier you become. And when you’re healthy, you are more likely to be optimistic. That’s where happiness is. That’s where joy, calm and peace are. So by saying “I am healthy, energetic and optimistic”, even if I’m having a difference of opinion with someone, in the end I know it’s all gonna work out. That’s optimism. I’ll find the answer. So I am healthy, energetic, and optimistic.

Every choice I make leads to bigger and better opportunities.

If you’re a businessperson, then, of course, you want more opportunities. You want more customers or clients. I know this last year has been horrendous for many of you. You can’t open your doors, or you’re getting a few customers because of the pandemic. Please hang in there somehow, because you will get through this. It will come to an end. You need to go within to find those choices that you must make for your business. People can give you advice, that’s great. And you can smile and say thank you. But nobody knows your business better than you. If there is something you can do to pivot to a new opportunity in the current climate, your internal guidance will instruct you. Don’t listen to anybody else unless your inner wisdom says you should. Because you deserve a booming business and joyful connections with others, affirm, “Every choice I make leads to bigger and better opportunities.”

If you add affirmations to your daily routine, you’re going to benefit greatly. Trying anything new is always, like “Oh another thing to do. I don’t have time for that.” Yet, if you add something new that’s positive, at the same time you should let go of what is not serving you. So it’s incumbent upon you to add new good, positive practices that will help you have the abundant and happy life you deserve.

So here they are again.

I am open to all the wealth life has to offer.

I am healthy, energetic and optimistic.

Every choice I make leads to bigger and better opportunities. 

Take these into your heart. Feel the rightness of them for you. Acknowledge these statements as truth. And if it isn’t true, make it true. You can do that.
